Me
ABOUT
I have always had a general love for science but discovered I had a passion for molecular biology, after taking genetics and biochemistry in college. However, unlike most scientists, I enjoy communicating and presenting science more than the benchwork. During my final undergraduate year at North Carolina State University, I was admitted to NC State's graduate school as an accelerated bachelor's/master's student. The Master of Microbial Biotechnology (MMB) Graduate Program - through a blended curriculum of cutting-edge science classes, MBA classes, and industry practicum projects - provided me with the education and tools needed to transition into the commercial side of the biotechnology industry.

I graduated from NC State with a bachelor's degree in genetics and a minor in biotechnology in 2019 and a master's degree in microbial biotechnology in 2020. While attending my final year of graduate school, I also interned at EpiCypher, a small local biotechnology company, that creates tools and performs services for epigenetics and chromatin biology researchers. Upon graduation I was hired full-time at EpiCypher as the Marketing Communication Manager (a modest marketing team of one, with additional support from coworkers and freelancers). Over the last few years the company and I have grown together! Now as Senior Marketing Manager, I grown the internal marketing team to three, oversee our web development team, and provide strategy and direction for all EpiCypher marketing efforts.
The startup / small company culture has allowed me to wear many hats and learn more than I ever imagined my first job would offer. My unique background allows me to quickly get up to speed on new products, understand the customer as a former bench scientist myself, and come up with creative messaging that will resonate with our audience. I love to learn and never shy away from a challenge. My ability to pivot, quickly problem-solve, and handle ambiguity has served me well not only in the small company setting but also as a manager.
Some of my most proud projects include:
-
screening and transitioning the company onto a new project management software
-
planning our biannual conference, EpiCypher 2021
-
leading our major website re-design while in grad school in spring of 2020
-
driving the marketing campaign for EpiCypher first-ever kit
-
creating the marketing department objectives/goals & team structure from scratch
